after getting in the boat and drifting away from the shore I realized I didn’t have an oar. My heart will lead the way upstream. its the only direction I know. it is not hot and the river isn’t wet. texture and rhythm arrives like autumn leaves fall. floating floating floating away in the distance. its velvet today and slow soft drums at noon. I think I can I think I can see the sun hide in the morning dew. unfamiliar without action leads me to just do and peel glimpses of what’s upstream because to me this is all new. the river is deep. my heart cast no shadow.
